FROM THE WORKSHOP


3 CAPRICCI

Thomas Jahn continues the serie of caprices fort the italian ensemble „Trio Altrove“. After finishing the „Capriccio per flauto e chitarra“ he is composing a „Capriccio per clarinetto e chitarra“ and later on a „Capriccio per flauto, clarinetto e chitarra“. The premiere of the complete cycle is intended for 2011 in Italy.


NACHTMUSIK

„Ensemble Acht“ from Hamburg has commisioned the composer to write a chamber music. The music should be composed „inspired by the theme of the fourth mouvement of Johannes Brahms Symphony No. 1 (Allegro non troppo ma con brio)“. The work composed for clarinet, french horn, viola, violoncello and double bass entitled „Nachtmusik“ (Night music) will be performed in 2012 in Hamburg.


CHORALVORSPIEL

The „Posaunenwerk der evangelischen Kirche Kurhessen Waldeck“ commissioned Thomas Jahn to compose a choral prelude to „Die Nacht ist vorgedrungen“ (text by Jochen Klepper, music by Johannes Petzold) for brass instruments.


SALTATIO PROJECT

Based on a text about dance accredited to Augustinus („I praise the dance, for it frees people from the haviness of matter...“) Thomas Jahn has created a „Saltatio-Projekt“ for Erika Klütz school for theatrical dance and dance pedagogy in Hamburg. Students play, sing and dance a twelve minutes performance choreographed by Karolin Schäfer. Within the scope of summer performances of the school the dance project will take place in July 2, 3 and 4 2010 at the „Lichthof“ theatre in Hamburg.


STREIK BEI MANNESMANN

In January 2011 musicologist Dr. Beate Kutschke will give a lecture on the scenical cantata „Streik bei Mannesmann“ in London. The cantata was a work in co-operation by composers Dietrich Boeckle, Hans Werner Henze, Niels Frederic Hoffmann, Thomas Jahn, Luca Lombardi, and Wilfried Steinbrenner under the overall direction of Henze in 1973.. STANZA FIVE POINT EIGHT

The Berlin flute player Beate Gabriela Schmitt and the sound engineer and composer Thomas Seelig produced a CD of the work for computer supported bass-, contrabass-and subcontrabass flute.

During an exchange concert with works by composers in Berlin and Hamburg supported by the private foundation Rusch in Berlin and Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg she will perform the work dedicated to her within the scope of the series „Unerhörte Musik“ (unheard-of music) at the Berliner Kabarettanstalt on March, 10, 2009 in Berlin (german first performance) and on April, 30, 2009 in Hamburg at the „Forum“ of Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg.


VOCALISE

For singer Frauke Aulbert (www.stimmkuenstlerin.de), clarinet-and saxophone player Bernhard Asche and pianist Thorsten Kuhn Thomas Jahn will compose a „Vocalise“.
The premiere will take place at the cultural foundation „Schloß Britz“ Berlin on 18. and 19. May 2009.


ORTE UND ZEITEN/TEMPI E LUOGHI

In his ballet „The great mass“ with music by Mozart the choreographer Uwe Scholz, who died in 2004 included two pieces from the song cycle „Orte und Zeiten/tempi e luoghi“ (Places and times/times and places) by Thomas Jahn: „Viele Länder durchfuhr ich...“ (Many countries I passed...) by Catull and „Zeit und Zeiten“ (Time and times) by Berhard Laux. Under the title „The great mass“ the Naxos company released the ballet for DVD.

ESTATE "HEDWIG FLOREY" OF THE ENSEMBLE HINZ&KUNST

The Manuscript department of the Staats-und Universitätsbibliothek „Carl von Ossietzky“ Hamburg included in ist collection the „Nachlass Hinz & Kunst (NHK)“ („Estate of the Ensemble Hinz&Kunst“ in 2001. The music ensemble (Berhard Asche, Hedwig Florey, Wolfgang Florey, Thomas Jahn, Peter Wulfert, later on Matthias Kaul) existed between 1968 and 1982. Thomas Jahn was a member of the ensemble until 1979.
The estate named after Hedwig Florey who died in 1999 was systematized by Mrs. Katharina Harde-Tinnefeld.
The collection contains more than 500 documents including a correspondence between the ensemble and Hans Werner Henze. The collection available for research can be linked with www.sub.uni-hamburg.de/informationen/
