„How do you go from today to yesterday?
Quite simple: You buy a ticket to go there. A scientist and a philosopher do not find such a solution. They try to solve the problem by chemical experiments and by very hard thinking, but they quarrel and miss the chance of their lives: to defeat a dragon and to win the heart of a princess. This is achieved by the story’s hero, the young Winchbucket. He sommersaults backwards into yesterday, tames the dragon by feeding him watercress sandwiches (which the dragon adores) and conquers the heart of the princess.

In the dressing room the singers prepare to go on stage for the third part. There are pointed remarks, insinuations, jealousies, insults, outbreaks of hate, refusals to go on stage...will the third part take place at all?

In the third part, a princess likewise plays the leading character, but another one. There is no heart to win – on the contrary. She has tormented her pekinese dog until it ran away, and now she wants a new pet. Competitors arrive with perculiar specimen. Soon, there is no lack of animals in the palace – and not only dogs make there home in the human dwellings.“

(From the program of the first performance in Germany)
